Myself, and all the performers on this recording are graduates of California Institute of the Arts spanning a 23 year period. Since I attended CalArts from both 1979-81 and 1999-2002, I had the good fortune of working along side all of them as classmates. I know I speak for everyone in saying that our CalArts experiences have shaped our musical personalities in many wonderfully unexpected ways. We owe our unique musical world-views to the wonderful professors and students we worked with at this incredible artistic oasis. Thanks to all the amazing people who contributed their talents to this endeavor. Their creative and technical input took this project far beyond anything I could have done on my own. Special thanks to Jonathan Miller, who has been my guru concerning all things digital-audio for the past several years. Awakens was recorded in various bedroom, basement, and garage studios around Los Angeles, CA, by Chris Armstrong, Bryan Landers, Jonathan Miller, and Lisa Popeil. Nearly all parts were recorded in Ableton Live 6. A few parts were recorded in Logic and Pro Tools originally and then brought into Live. Early stages were recorded on a PowerBook G4 and then later on a MacBook Pro with a PreSonus Firepod interface. Sampler: Kontakt 2; Soft-Synth: Absynth 4; Editor: Peak Pro 5; MIDI tracks created using Sibelius 4. Metallic percussion from Bang a Drum and Motherland Music in LA.
